Carew's death
Carew died on 13 December in 1937 at the age of 58 (although his grave says he was 56 years old). He died in Gulgong District Hospital of complications following the removal of his appendix.
Burial
He was buried on 14 December 1937 in the Church of England Cemetery, Gulgong. His gravestone was organised by his wife, Edie, who survived him. Note that, although Carew's grave records his age at death as being 56 years old, he was actually 58 years old.

Memorial
In the Gulgong St Luke's Church a lamp hangs in memory of Carew's life. It was donated to the church by his wife.
Roma Wallis’ book Pubs Past and Present notes that “Encased in a silver base a red flame hangs before the altar at Gulgong’s St Luke’s to the memory of Carew Northcote who joined Ted Gray in December 1937” (Wallis, 1998, p. 83).
The lamp is a sanctuary lamp which cost 10 shillings in 1938. The following picture was sent to me by Reverend Jorie Ryan in 2009.
