Name
Carew's aristocratic name was thought to have reflected his father's ancestral links to the Northcotes of Earls of Iddesleigh in Devon, England. Although no direct line has been traced to this family, many of Carew's brothers' names can also be traced to similar names in this family.
A visit to Gulgong in 1934
In 1934, Carew's sister-in-law, Ellen NORTHCOTE (wife of Leo NORTHCOTE, Carew's youngest brother) travelled by train to visit Carew in the town of Gulgong where he was working as a publican at the Royal Hotel, now known as the Ten Dollar Motel. She took her young 2-year-old son with her, Carew Joseph Trevor NORTHCOTE. For some reason her husband, Leo NORTHCOTE, was not able to accompany her on this trip. This photo was taken at the back of the Royal Hotel. The people in the photograph are (from our left to right):
- Either Edie (Carew Senior's wife) or his daughter, Joyce
- Carew Junior

- Ellen NORTHCOTE (nee Keneally)
